ACNE SCARRING
What is acne scarring?
Acne is an annoyance in the lives of many people, especially in our teenage years. Sometimes acne can be so aggressive that scarring occurs which can be particularly distressing when this appears on the face, knocking our confidence.
What causes acne scarring?
Acne is caused by skin pores filling with excess material such as oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells. When this happens the pore itself can become swollen and cause a break in the follicle wall.
Usually, these small breaks heal fairly quickly, but if the break in the wall is particularly deep then the infected fluid can leak out onto the surrounding skin resulting in deeper lesions.
The body attempts to fix this by producing new collagen fibres. Unfortunately, the body cannot create tissue that is as smooth as the original skin, and so scar tissue is formed – resulting in
acne scarring.
