ENLARGED PORES
What are enlarged pores?
Pores, those tiny dots you see on the surface of your skin, are actually the openings of hair follicles. They are completely normal and everyone has them, however, occasionally pores can enlarge to create unsightly ‘pits’ particularly around the facial area.
What causes enlarged pores?
Each pore contains a sebaceous gland, responsible for producing the oil of our skin.
The natural size of our pores is often determined by genetic factors and our skin type. Typically, people with darker skin types have larger pores than those with fairer skin. Dry skin often appears poreless whilst the pores of the oily skin are much more noticeable.
Despite these genetic factors your pores can easily become further enlarged and stretched due to several completely natural occurrences.

The primary contributing factor is when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil, and over time the pores can become clogged with sebum and dead skin, causing them to stretch.
Which parts of the skin are most affected by enlarged pores?
Whilst enlarged pores can occur all over the body, they become most noticeable around the forehead and nose, as this is where the sebaceous glands are larger and therefore the pores are more noticeable. Enlarged pores around these points on the face are usually the main areas of concern when people seek treatment for this skin problem.
